Social Media Summer School Day 6 - Add Real World Value //FourTap
Checking in to Foursquare using an Oyster card

FourTap is a service being developed which allows you to touch into venues (and check in on Foursquare) simply by using a London Underground Oyster card (with an RFID chip inside).

For many the action of going on a phone and actively checking in to a location remains quite unnatural so moves like this to bring Foursquare (or other location based services) into the real world may hugely increase mainstream adoption - though whether people really want to follow their friend’s tube journeys across London is another question.

In May 2009 a version of this technology with its own web based interface won “best local hack” at Yahoo!’s Open Hack London.

FourTap is under development by Dan W, a freelance web app & mobile developer in Bristol, UK. Check out his web page.

Play Me, I’m Yours (New York)
An artwork by British artist Luke Jerram who has been touring the project globally since 2008.
From 9am-10pm each day, 60 pianos will be available to playacross New York City. They are located in public parks, streets and plazas.
A website has been made to post and share films, photos and stories about the pianos. While documenting each piano’s journey, the website will connect the pianos with their individual communities across the city. Following the artwork, the pianos will be donated to local schools and community groups.
Play Me, I’m Yours is being presented simultaneously in London and New York. Connect here with the street pianos in the UK.

It’s amazing what you can do with TFL’s info and a Google map.
vincenthaywood:

Very cool use of TFL API’s. Matthew Somerville has created a map using some clever maths and live data of trains departing from the tube stations. Also amazing how the tube looks in its real layout. Head over to the site here
I think they were going to create a similar thing for tube staff but nothing moved…sort of just lay there. =)
