Want&Blog Social Media Summer School

7 days of social media stories, insights, opinions & case studies from around the world, from the 19th - 25th July 2010.

Back during the Summer Want&Blog was taken over by our social media summer school, 7 days of articles, opinions, videos & links on how to run a social campaign and case studies of those doing it well already - we had submissions from dozens of commentators all around the world.

Missed it? You don’t have to miss out, browse through the articles we posted through these links, each responding to a day’s topic.

Want&Blog is a social media and marketing Tumblr with a specific focus on engaging people in conversation. We’re always asking people what social media means to them and through our regular Want&Quiz feature we’ve heard from multinational directors through to primary school teachers.

Now we’re asking people all over the world to enrol not as pupils, but as teachers in the first annual, online, Want&Blog Social Media Summer School.

In a fast paced field where no one is really an expert, we’re opening the discussion up to contributors to share their own thoughts and opinions which we’ll publish over 7 days from Monday 19th July (the official deadline for post submissions is midnight (GMT) on Friday 17th).

We want to hear from anyone who wants to write an article, upload a photo, give us a quote, share a link or even record a video or audio clip on any of the 7 topics below, which represent 7 steps in developing and implementing a social marketing strategy. We know many of you won’t ever have thought about social media in such a formal way but hopefully your ideas will fit into one of these areas - get in touch and discuss them if you’re not clear!

We’re looking for summaries, opinion pieces, news items, case studies, infographics… Anything relevant to the discussion! You’re welcome to submit as many posts on as many topics as you choose, but obviously we may not publish everything we receive! All published posts will be attributed entirely to your name but by submitting you are declaring your willingness for us to publish them and that you have rights to the content.

The 7 Daily Topics We Want You To Focus On:

1. Listen
2. Involve Stakeholders
3. Make a Plan
4. Set Rules
5. Engage
6. Add Real World Value
7. Measure (Then Adapt)

How to get involved:

If you’re a Tumblr user you can get right to it and submit a post now, or perhaps ask us a question if you want extra information or a more specific brief. If you’d rather just send a message then e-mail us at jerry@wantandblog.co.uk or Twitter us on @wantandblog

If you just want to attend the Want&Blog Social Media Summer School as a student then be sure to add us to your favourites and come back on July 19th. You can also follow us on Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook or via RSS - so there’s no excuse for missing this class!

Please pass it on to your friends, colleagues & networks - the more people who input into the discussion the more we’ll all get out of Summer School!

NB: Some posts in our Summer School have previously been posted on other blogs or websites, in all cases we give full credit to the original author.
